Germantown, Tennessee is a wonderful place for families to live, and their great public school system is a large reason for that. Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) is consistently ranked one of the top school districts in Tennessee, and many families move to Germantown city limits just so their children can attend Germantown schools.
I frequently see this question a lot, especially from clients relocating here, and wanted to take a moment to address it in case it's helpful for you too: Germantown Elementary, Germantown Middle School and Germantown High School are not part of Germantown Municipal School District. These three 'Germantown' schools are actually part of the Memphis Shelby County Schools system. There are talks of these schools being bought by GMSD and incorporated into their district, but so far there is no confirmed timeline for that.
The schools in GMSD are as follows:
If you are looking to purchase a home, you can always verify the schools the home is zoned to via online school zone maps: both GMSD and Shelby County Schools' websites offer this feature. If you'd like a second set of eyes, I'm always happy to help. A good rule of thumb for GMSD zoning is that the address' city should be Germantown and the address zip code will be one of Germantown's two zip codes, 38138 or 38139.
